Fallen Giant

This afternoon I visited the site of the I-35W bridge collapse, or at least viewed it from as close as was permittable. The 10th Street bridge, which parallels where the 35 bridge used to be, was recently opened.

I really had no desire to go down there until about a week ago...but I think I really needed to see it to believe it. Also, from a professional standpoint, this bridge and the process to rebuild it is a catalyst for many changes in my industry (I hope). To see it now will only make it more satisfying and interesting when it stands once again.

It's quite the site to see (photos here). They are in the middle of the clearing operations, so there's a fair amount of activity down there. It's still quite a mess though, and still difficult to fathom what once was there...just fell down. The bridge fell down. Unbelievable.
