Making the Most of It

Yes, there's still snow on the ground (it's still March after all), but today we had a brief respite before the snow flies again. We spent some time with a friend of mine this afternoon, then extended our outdoor play with a bike ride and some driveway art. Lucy was quite into it, as you can see.

A Visit From the Grandparents

This visit brought to you by the movie "Frozen," which Grandma and Grandpa hadn't seen yet. We made sure we got the DVD the day it was released, so we'd be ready for their visit a few days later.

What a great weekend!

Kindergarten Roundup

Yeah, you read that right.

I can hardly believe it either!

But this girl is ready. Preschool has been great, but it's time to move on. She'll be a young kinderbean, but I have no idea what we'd do with her for another year.

Her elementary school is wonderful, and not too far from home. It will be a big change I'm sure, for all of us - but I'm so excited for her! What struck me the most was what a wonderful community we have built around us over the past few years. There will be three kindergarten classes, but in those classes Lucy will already know a girl from dance class, two kids from church, and her best friend N. And likewise, I saw their parents and could immediately strike up a conversation based on our mutual activities. It was a good feeling to know that although we live in a large suburb of a major metro area, it still feels like a community.

It feels like home.

Saving Up

So we think we might try to go to Disney World early next year. I told Lucy it costs a lot of money, so she's got to save up. Grandma Diane gave us a great idea - why not save in a clear jar so she can see her progress?

A long way to go, but she's pretty motivated to do chores now!

New Specs

About a month ago, Lucy had her eyes checked at preschool and the results came back very inconsistent. They recommended she see an eye doctor.

Lo and behold, we went in on Valentine's Day, and our girl needed glasses. Turns out she's far-sighted, which means she can see things better farther away than she can up close. I guess her eyes were working pretty hard to focus on letters. I felt so bad! I suspected maybe a slight vision problem due to some occasional squinting, but had no idea it was that difficult for her. 

We picked out frames immediately after the appointment, so there was no time to really let it sink in. Lucy was actually very excited about it, and didn't understand why we had to wait a week and couldn't take the glasses home right then and there! We picked them up the other day, and she has had absolutely no issues with wearing them, for which I am so thankful. I'm not sure what we would do if she didn't like them!

I was really a little bit sad at first to find out she had to get glasses...her sweet little face would be changed forever! But of course she picked purple frames, and I think they suit her quite well, don't you? And the best part is, we can already tell a difference. If this is what it takes, so be it!
