The Fonz + Clearwater = LMAO

More pregancy dreams for your enjoyment...

This one started with me watching a movie, in a theater, with a woman I work with and her husband. When we exited the lobby, they disappeared and I saw a girl I used to go to high school with named Paula. She was waiting for me to walk back to our rooms, which were right next to each other in the adjacent dormitory. Instead of going with her, I stopped at a coffee stand in the lobby and ordered a coffee and a raspberry tart. The coffee was taking forever, and then they told me they were out of raspberries. I was not happy. [wake]

A couple of weeks ago I had a dream that I was in a grocery store, and there was a man following me around. I don't know who this man was, I never really turned around to see him. I just knew he was behind me and I didn't seem to mind. In fact, I wanted him to follow me. So much so that I picked up a box of old-fashioned chocolate-iced donuts (which just so happen to be Husband's favorite) and proceeded to walk up and down the aisles, enjoying that I was being followed. I picked up one of the donuts and started eating it, and as I grabbed it from the box I noticed the letters "LMAO" written on the box. This is not an acronym I ever use, but in internet language it means "laughing my ass off." I have no idea what this means, but apparently the man was intrigued enough to follow me and my box of donuts out to the parking lot. [wake]

Lastnight I dreamt I was at a school dance, back in the 50s or 60s judging by the way I was dressed. A girl I used to go to high school with (Janelle) asked me if I wanted to split a plate of food with her. I said OK, and a waiter brought it to us as we sat on the bleachers. It was chicken, potatoes, and some kind of seafood that I didn't want to touch, so she ate it. When we finished, she introduced me to a girl named Clearwater. Clearwater wanted to meet "The Fonz" (yes, as in Henry Winkler's character on Happy Days) and apparently I had a connection. The three of us had to drive kind of far to Arnold's (the restaurant hangout on the the TV show), where we stayed for hours until The Fonz finally showed up at the end of the night. He came over and then walked off, arm-in-arm with both girls, and I was left sitting in the booth wondering how I was going to get home. [wake]

Have you noticed the common theme? FOOD! It shows up in nearly all of my dreams lately. Except for the one when I dreamed that Bret Michaels (formerly of the rock band Poison, now of the supremely horrible reality show Rock of Love) was my boyfriend. Alas, I could not change him. He still wanted to mess around with other women. I woke up before I found out what happened, but I'm pretty sure I consoled myself with a chocolate cake.

Buffalo Chicken Mocha, Anyone?

I have been having some very vivid and strange dreams lately. I attribute this to hormones, and also to the fact that I am having to get up to pee between 4-5AM pretty consistently. I must not be sleeping well in those next couple of hours before I have to get up for good, and all that waking up is helping me to maintain a memory of my dreams. They are extremely vivid and I can remember lots of details.

Another thing I’ve noticed is that a key theme in the dreams is usually something or someone that I dealt with that day. For instance, last Friday night I had a dream that I was being followed/stalked by some crazy man in a black car. I had just watched the movie “Copycat” on TV that day. (Also in that dream, I had a little girl with me. Perhaps this is a sign about the gender of our baby?) Sunday night, right before I went to bed I was thinking through some work tasks that needed to be completed the next day. That night someone I work with showed up in my dream.

So let me tell you about my dream after eating a buffalo chicken wrap for lunch on Monday.

I am in a coffee shop with a few other girls and one male “supervisor,” and I get the feeling we are on a high school or college trip. We are getting a presentation about the different flavors of some kind of popsicles or ice cream treats, and our task is to choose the best flavor, and that’s what we get to eat. We must have chosen vanilla bean, because that is what I am eating. It is actually a vanilla-colored concoction in the shape of a bean, on a stick of course. The other girls finish before me and go out to the parking lot. I decide to get some coffee before I join them.

I have the same dilemma I always have in coffee shops, because I don’t drink a lot of coffee and never know what to get. So I default to a mocha. I ask for a “tall,” as in my experience that is basically the medium size. The lady tells me it will be $8. Eight dollars! That seems a little steep, I think. But I see a list of other people who have ordered that day, and my cousin Tami was on there. Her bill was also $8. So I think it must be normal.

The lady behind the counter grabs a huge cup - we’re talking in excess of 64 oz. here. It’s so big she can’t seem to find a proper lid for it. I think this is weird and that I’ll never be able to drink it all, but I don’t say anything, I guess I’m getting my 8 bucks worth. She starts preparing my mocha by filling the bottom of my cup with cooked chicken. Then she uses one of those flavored syrup bottles and covers the chicken in buffalo sauce. She repeats these two steps until the cup is full. This is followed by spraying whipped cream around the edges of the cup. She then goes over to a sink full of water, and reaches in to pull out a slab of meat that is more the size of something beef, but is chicken. She slaps in on the counter and pokes in a syringe to squeeze out some tan chicken juice.. She uses this to make tiny dots in the whipped cream to give aesthetic appeal to my very distinctive “mocha.”

I woke up as she was handing it to me. At no point in the dream did I think this process or its outcome were strange. As I lay in bed thinking through the dream, I suddenly burst out laughing as I realized that my subconscious had just delivered me a Buffalo Chicken Mocha, minus the mocha, with whipped cream on top.

I wouldn’t recommend ordering this one up at your local Starbucks.

Ladybugs and Michael Clarke Duncan

It's been a good long while since I posted a dream on here, but I really haven't had anything of note lately. Until the wee hours of this very morning.

The beginning of the dream is a little sketchy, but I know I'm with my cousin S who is currently a senior in high school. We keep getting followed around by this creepy woman who I identified as Mrs. __ (can't remember), and we determine she is an alien who is trying to abduct us. Later it is nighttime and we are in a bedroom, huddled on the floor, scared because this voice is coming from the window, telling us she wants to take the child, meaning S (even though S is high-school sized in the dream). The voice comes crawling through the window, onto the bed, and it is this Mrs. __. She is dressed in some that's entirely red and black, with a red skirt with big black dots on it. It reminds me of a ladybug. This ladybug woman tells me that if she can take S, she will donate $20,000 to the convent in Springfield.

[is this an episode of the Simpsons?]

Cut to the next morning, where two large double-decker Noah's Ark-like vehicles pull up to a curb in the light of day, presumably to pick up S, even though I told her I would never let the ladybug woman take her. But the scheme is thwarted; as two men on motorcycles swoop in, ramming into the Noah's Arcs, making the wood on the outside break apart. Oh, and one of the motorcycle riders was Michael Clarke Duncan. Anyway, inside are several small children, some wearing only diapers, some with abnormally short legs, and they start toddling out into the daylight. Apparently the ladybug woman wanted to take S to help her watch all of these little kids.

And...wake.

Anyone want to guess what the heck this is about?!

Say What?!

I woke up this morning with the song "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton-John in my head. I have not heard this song recently, so it must have been triggered by something in a dream. And no, it was not that kind of dream. I think I would remember that.

Anyway, it got me thinking about how when you're young, the meaning of certain songs completely escapes you. You like a song because of the beat, the melody, whatever. You may have been singing every word as an 8-year-old, but had no idea what you were saying. Now listening as an adult, you're thinking "Whoa! Did my parents know I was listening to this?!"

Take "Let's Get Physical." It's about working out, right? I remember the video, with Olivia and all those sweaty fat guys in the gym, and the surprise! shocking! ending. But I'm pretty sure the song is not just about an afternoon on the treadmill.

Some other examples:

Pour Some Sugar on Me - Def Leppard

As a kid I wondered why on earth anyone would want sugar poured on them. Gross!

As an adult I realize the power of the metaphor.

Little Red Corvette - Prince

A guy singing about his car, sweet.

Car = girl; the oldest analogy around.

Rock You Like a Hurricane - Scorpions

Yeah! This song rocks! Like a hurricane! Powerful rock!

Google those lyrics and you will be amazed. My mouth dropped. Shame on German hair bands!

Is this proof that our top-40 songs are inundated with sexual innuendo?

Or is it proof that people rarely pay attention to lyrics, and if you've got a good beat and a kick-ass chorus, you've got it made?

You be the judge.

Pass the Bugles

OK - I had a very weird and funny dream this morning, and since I know some of my family reads this, I thought they would get a kick out of it. Because you, dear family, were the stars!

It started with Husband and I driving in the dark, and looking up into the trees at a nest of some sort. We drove to a beach, which had no sand but just a concrete slab leading to the water. We parked the car and got out, because Husband wanted to walk down to a nearby jetty. He got a lawn chair and started walking. There were other cars parked around, and suddenly it was light out and there were lots of people. It was some kind of country club picnic, I told Husband it was a fundraiser. We walked by a table of people eating and I saw my Aunt Jennifer. I stopped to say hi, and also saw my Uncle Tony sitting next to her. I looked around the table and in addition to a bunch of unknowns including two ladies with bright red, curly hair piled high on their heads (and I mean HIGH), I saw my Uncle Steve. I asked where Carole was and he said she was trying on some jeans. (?)

At this point Husband disappeared and my cousin Kristi appeared next to me, talking to our relatives. She asked them to pass a platter filled with Bugles and Chex cereal stuck together and shaped in the form of butterflies. She was wearing a really weird outfit - super baggy jeans with a long-sleeved T-shirt that had a ladybug on it. Everyone else was wearing shorts.

Jennifer was holding her granddaughter, my cousin Emily's little girl, Allison. She is about 4-5 months old now, and she was the same age in the dream. She was sleeping when I first saw her, but Jennifer woke her up and when she saw me, her eyes got wide and she said, "you wanna hold me?" and was all animated and talkative (keep in mind her age). I took her in my arms and carried her around.

I walked into a different room (which is weird, because we were just outside...) to talk to another table full of people. There was nobody I recognized at this table. But then I looked down on the ground, and there was my Uncle Steve, laying on the ground and waving at Allison, trying to get her to wave at him.

It was at this point that I woke up, so I didn't get to see what other oddities might show up in this dream! In any case, it was nice to "see" my family's faces...I'm sure more of you may have shown up if I had slept longer!
