Top 10 of 2008

This year we had much to be thankful for...I thought I'd put it in a top-10 list. Happy New Year to all of you, and may 2009 bring you many blessings.

1. Finding out we were pregnant
There are things that happen in life when you stop in the moment and realize, "from this point on, the rest of my life is going to change." I felt that way when Husband proposed, and I felt that way when I saw the 2 pink lines on the test I took the evening of October 4th!

2. Buying a house
When I walked into this house after being disappointed by about 10 others, I knew it was our house. Signing the papers and walking in the first time it was officially ours qualify as some of those life-changing moments.

3. Hearing the baby's heartbeat
This was one of the most amazing feelings of my life, to know there is something alive inside you...and such a great feeling of responsibility knowing you are its sole caregiver. This also happened at my 12-week appointment, and I can't tell you the relief I felt making it through the first trimester. I can't wait to see it next month, and for Husband to see and hear it too!

4. Bringing Buddy home
You all know by now how much I love our dog! Right now he is entertaining Husband and Brandon downstairs with his antics. He has brought so much love and laughter into our home.

5. Our trip to the North Shore
This was the first time Husband, Brandon and I had taken a "real" vacation together. We had a great time and I hope it is something that Brandon always remembers.

6. Brandon turning 15
I can't tell you how much Brandon has matured this year, both physically and emotionally. A great young man has emerged (along with his towering height). I'm so lucky to have a stepson that doesn't give me too much grief! :)

7. Receiving the Outstanding Professional Award
Nobody really knows this, but at my company's Christmas party I received a regional award that was voted on by my peers and superiors in the company. It was presented by my long-time mentor and friend, which made it even more special. This was totally unexpected and I was very honored to be recognized in that way.

8. Our nephew's first birthday party
Our nephew Little D is such a bright spot in our lives. We have been lucky enough to see him once a month for the past few, starting with his 1st birthday. He's been such a hoot with his walking and talking and devious little faces. I adore that kid and I hope he knows I always will.

9. All of the great visitors
We had a lot of people come and visit us this year, and it was so great to have them see the new house and just hang out with us. Among the long-distance visitors were my parents; Jason, Chrissy and Dylan; my Aunt Barb and her family; my cousin Kristi; and my friend Kristy and her daughter, Sydney.

10. Finishing the front yard
Although a homeowner's work is never done, we really made huge strides in improving our front yard, which was a messy, mulch-infested mess when the snow melted away and we could finally see it. Husband and Brandon did most of the work here, and it was a huge accomplishment.

Here's to 2009!
