Summer Weekend Warriors: 6/29 Catching Up

This weekend was pretty much catching-up time after our little vacation. Saturday, I will admit, I was pretty useless. I guess spending 4 days in the fresh air, sunshine, and water (not to mention being a primary source of entertainment for a 4-year-old) can wear on a person. I was tired! But we all rebounded a bit to do some appliance shopping on Saturday evening, since our dishwasher quit right before vacation. Of course replacing the dishwasher begs the question of if it is also time to replace the other appliances, since they could go at any time, as well. Our space for a fridge is limited, so there were also some discussions about potentially (re)moving cupboards. So we spent a couple of hours in two stores, talking to salesmen and weighing our options. All of it made my head and our bank account ache. Specific plan TBD.

Sunday, Lucy and I spent some time on the deck soaking up the glorious sunshine. I swung in the hammock reading a book and semi-tanning my legs, while she made “octopus pudding.”

We tossed a ball around and played with Buddy, then after lunch went to get her hair cut and run some other errands before heading home to play outside some more. A rather uneventful, but nice summer day.

We did discover in our adventures outside that our rose bush had bloomed while we were on vacation. It was here when we moved in, and in the last five years has never done anything – we didn’t even have an idea of what color it might be. We have never done anything special to help it, but all the rain this spring must have awakened these beautiful red blossoms. The peonies had also bloomed while we were away. It was a nice surprise!
