Scooby-Scooby-Doo...

I was flipping through channels this evening and noticed on one of the cartoon channels that Scooby Doo was on. A friend of mine has a near 3-year-old who is enamored of Scooby, so I know the kids these days know all about the loveable pup. I know it's not the same version that I was watching in the 70s and 80s, but Scooby is still around!

A quick check on Wikipedia revealed that Scooby has been solving cartoon crimes since 1969. I loved Scooby Doo as a kid...even if every single episode ended the same ("I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!") Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby were the perfect team. Then there were the days of Scrappy Doo, and who knows what other characters they have these days.

I love that Scooby is still going strong. I can't really think of any other cartoons that have been around since 1969, can you?

Did you notice that Velma has had a makeover? She's pretty much a shorter Daphne in a wig.

The New Scooby Doo's are pretty darn good, very retro...much better than the Scrappy days. The people making them definitely grew up on classic Scooby. Plus they are longer which is nice from a story telling point of view and they get a chance to throw a little history and knowledge about wherever they happen to be solving mysteries.
Yeah, they tried to make Velma more modern and hip but I think that only lasted a couple movies (epic fail)...I am pretty sure she is much closer to the original again.
